The Sporting Memories Foundation has funded a Glamorgan County Cricket Initiative to develop some Cricketing Memories Groups in South Wales.
The groups are based on the work of the Sporting Memories Foundation and are aimed at delivering a weekly meeting for people to get together to talk about their sporting memories, have some fun and engage in a little gentle exercise.
Whilst anyone over 50 can join the group, it is hoped that we can target those in the community who are experiencing loneliness, depression or may have a diagnosis of a dementia related illness.
For more details about the SMF see here:
We would like to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer to help run such a group based in Pontypridd. As a volunteer you can expect:
- Links with an established UK organisation with a proven track record in using the power of sport to tackle dementia, loneliness and depression
- Initial training and ongoing support
- Access to quality digital, hard copy and physical exercise resources
- Opportunities to link with the wider cricketing family of Wales and the sporting memories community across the UK.
- A chance to learn about the work of the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket and its varied volunteer roles.
As a volunteer co-ordinator you will be expected, over time, to:
Plan the weekly sessions in consultation with group members
* Ensure the venue is accessible
* Commit to being age and dementia friendly
* Share and celebrate ALL members memories
* Attend all training arranged
* Provide monitoring information for organising groups and funders
* Use their experience and knowledge to promote and extend the groups
work
Do get in touch if you would like to volunteer AND/OR if you know someone who would like to be a member of our Pontypridd group.
