Many older people in our commuknity are isolated and lonely and will need support to leave their houses now that covid restrictions are being eased. If you can spare an hour or so a week to be a befriender we would love to hear from you.
You would usually call or visit the same person each week to have a chat and be a caring and understanding presence in their lives, maybe do some shopping for them or bring them to the Feel Good Factory or other places for social activities. Just to have a cup of tea and a chat is important.
Befriending projects are crucial and could not function without people like you. You would certainly make a difference to an older person's life.
We are looking for volunteers with a friendly and approachable manner, with good listening skills and an ability to put people at their ease. Reliability is very important as older people will look forward to your visits and phone chats.
You will recieve induction, training and on going support. You will need a DBS Police Check but we will pay for that. Mileage and/or bus fares and incidentlal expenses will be reimbursed and you can have a lovely free lunch in our cafe on the days you are working. All of our volunteers understand the need for confidentiality and behave appropriately.
