One in six people in Wales is living with hearing loss. The Live Well with Hearing Loss service supports people who are deaf or have hearing loss or tinnitus and is an initiative newly-funded by the Welsh Government and delivered by RNID in partnership with Centre of Sign-Sight-Sound.
We are looking for volunteers to provide support and friendship as part of our befriending service. As a Live Well with Hearing Loss Befriender, you will phone service-users at a regular time each week or write letters on a regular basis and provide essential companionship for those who are lonely, socially isolated or who may not be able to leave their home easily.
You will have the opportunity to meet people in different situations and make a real difference to the people you support. You'll receive training and may learn new skills relevant to your role. You'll gain experience volunteering in the third sector and an experience to improve your CV if desired.
After initial training, we expect that you would be able to commit to a minimum of one hour a week for telephone befriending for a minimum of 10 weeks. This role takes place from your own home.
