Do you like talking about and remembering sport? Are you aged 50+? This is the group for you.

Sporting Memories Wales works with communities and organisations to promote the mental and physical wellbeing of people over 50, using the power of sport. Our services are inclusive and friendly and we welcome individuals living with dementia, long term health conditions or anyone who is feeling socially isolated.

Sporting Memories run weekly services for older adults living in RCT to reconnect with their community through the shared interest of sport. Normally we would have several weekly clubs within RCT but due to current restrictions these are closed for now. In the meantime we have remote services to offer all free of charge.

Services currently available:

RCT Sporting Memories Zoom Club - every Friday 1230pm - 0130pm - an online meeting to chat and reminisce about sport and meet other local people. Members will reminisce, sharing their memories of watching or playing sport. Memories can be triggered by showing archive footage, photographs, or memorabilia. They will also take part in fun activities such as ‘spot the ball’ and quizzes, as well as some light, inclusive physical activities. We can offer support to help members get connected through our Digital Champion Volunteers.

Telephone Circles - This service is for members who do not have a device to access a Zoom group or for those who prefer not to use our online Zoom clubs. All you require is a landline or mobile telephone which the facilitator can dial into. Members will reminisce and share their sporting memories within the circle, and like the Zoom clubs the circle will encourage and support members to be more physically active at home.

KIT bag - For people over 50 who are currently inactive and would like encouragement and support to be active at home, the Sporting Memories #KITbag provides equipment, motivation, guidance – and opportunities for companionship.

Companionship
– Opportunities to take part in Sporting Memories online sessions or phone circles

Motivation
– A personalised record book to record progress
– An exercise guide
– Exercise videos (DVD)
– Equipment: a stress ball, beach ball with pump, and resistance band

Inspiration to remember and talk about sport

– Four editions of our Sporting Pink nostalgia paper (with new editions sent after 1 month)
– A DVD introducing the Sporting Pink editions, with filmed discussions and sporting conversation relating to them
