We all know plastic is a problem. Less than ten percent of everyday plastic is recycled in the UK. The rest is incinerated or dumped in other countries. Animals and birds get caught in discarded plastic and ocean creatures eat micro-plastics. Plastics in the food chain and the atmosphere affect human health.
But plastic can be precious. When treated in the right way, plastic can be reused and recycled indefinitely. It can make household items, like plant pots and phone covers, play items like toe-holds for a community climbing wall or climbing frames for a school playground (see video below). It all comes down to separating the polymers (plastics) at source, and we’re getting a community facility to do this. Then new items can be made in our fabulous new workshop, facilitated by local artist Matthew Britton.
Pick don’t mix. In the next few months we’ll be reaching out to local youth groups, OAP groups, community groups, businesses and voluntary sector, inviting them to join the Rhondda recycling revolution
We’d love you to join us for the launch on Dydd Gŵyl Dewi You’ll have a chance to:
- Donate any clean household plastics and learn about how to #Pick don’t mix
- See how items can be made from waste
- Find out how to get involved
- Enjoy refreshments and entertainment!
