Men’s Shed Pontyclun is a not for profit community project which allows people to meet and share skills and experiences for the benefit of themselves and the community. Many of our members are retired either through age or ill health - we help them combat loneliness and isolation in a friendly, supportive environment.
We meet three times a week at our allotment site in Pontyclun where we grow our own fruit and vegetables to distribute throughout our community promoting good health and environmental sustainability.
In conjunction with Down To Zero environmental charity, we have created a workshop in Mwyndy where we undertake woodworking commissions including designing and building bird, bat and insect boxes, tree hives and planters for our local council.
We take in and refurbish unwanted bicycles which are passed on to anyone who needs one.
We support a monthly Repair Cafe in Pontyclun and we lead monthly Litter Picks in conjunction with Keep Wales Tidy.
Other charities reach out to us to help with their projects such as recently building a pod-cast room for Mothers Matter in Tonypandy.
All of this generates an enormous sense of self worth and pride in people and adds value to our community.
