I have volunteered and worked on Sustinability since leaving university shortly after the turn of the Millinium. After volunteering with Cardiffs City Centre Your Project and attempting to start a Community Allotmentment Project called 'Homegrown' I became a Self Employed tutor running training courses in Permacutlure design. I then became manager of Riverside Real Food Market for three years securing resources for community projects such as the Riverside Food Co-op & Riverside Community Garden.
I then went on to work as a Community First Partnerships Support Coordinator at Groundwork Wales covering Bridgend, Caerphilly & the Vale fo Glamorgan. At Cylch the Community Recyling Network for Wales I was employed on a project to develop a Carbon Credit for Wales and inadvertently helped to establish Community Energy Wales instead. It was through this that I came to the realisiation that communities need to have greater freedom to access public land for sustainable development projects in their own communities.
In ten years at Interlink RCT I have supported Social Enterprises and Community Organisations with their community engagement, business planning, governance, finance and funding, asset transfers and lease negotiations. I also project designed and managed a climate change programme that helped communities implement income generating community energy schemes, such as micro-hydro, and coordinated the Renew Wales mentor support programme in RCT. Amongst other things.
I currently work part time as Sustinable Futures Coordinator for the office of Heledd Fychan MS, and I am an active member of Friends of the Earth Pontypridd. I am also chair of a small community association 'Pontypridd Land Society' that is working towards setting up a community land trust. This will purchase parcels of land for sustainable land based enterprises in the local area. I love working with and supporting community groups, walking, cycling and gardening. I have lived in Pontypridd for a little over 15years and I'm passionate about Social & Environmental Justice.
