The Listening Project sits within the Bryncynon Strategy, a charity which responds to the needs of its community, which is made up of the villages that span the Lower Cynon Valley.

The Listening Project operates from the Feel Good Factory, a beautifully converted church which houses a healthy living café and state of the art well equipped conference and activity rooms.  The project works very much with older people in the community and is developing a befriending service based around volunteering opportunities, activities which the older people themselves identify as needed and wanted and the provision of meals on wheels and food boxes.

We are currently delivering over 100 meals on wheels and free boxes of tinned and packaged food to anyone in the community who needs one. 

Many older people are isolated and lonely, especially now during the covid pandemic.  We need lots of help to support our older people and Nina Finnigan, our newly appointed Listening Project Coordinator, is looking for volunteers who can spare a few hours a week to have a chat and be a caring and understanding presence in their lives.  In addition to telephone and face to face befriending, there are a number of other volunteer opportunities and we welcome older people to our volunteer team.  We are looking for volunteer caretakers, help in the café preparing the meals on wheels, packing and delivering the food boxes, gardening and admin and office work, including marketing and publicity. We have a good presence of Facebook!

Once the Feel Good Factory is open, we will host a number of activities as well as encouraging older people to pop in for a nutritious lunch or even just a cup of tea or coffee and a cake!  We recently acquired a fully accessible Ford Grand Tourneo which can accommodate a wheelchair so transport to and from the Feel Good Factory shouldn’t be a problem for anyone who has mobility problems.

All our volunteers will receive travel expenses, a lovely free lunch and on the job training, maybe even gain qualifications like the Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2.
