Welcome Friends volunteers visit people in their homes, once a week for about an hour to chat with them.  The program is government funded, and allows us to support isolated people over 50, living in the Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr areas.

When a person connects with others - whether that's chatting about the community and friends, their past, or even going out for a coffee, their mental health will no doubt improve.

A lot of our beneficiaries don't get out because they've lost confidence, suffer from anxiety and depression, have no one to go out with, and need that little bit of encouragement and support.

Others are housebound or bedbound, and can't get out at all - they need you to bring your best stories and cheerful smiles to them.  You may be the only person they see all week, or at least the only one who has time to stop and talk longer than 5 minutes.

We've been doing this for 12 years, so we know how important volunteers are to our older community - we know how you can make a massive difference, whether you're 18 or 80, your support is appreciated.

No experience is needed, travel expenses are paid. DBS check (we pay) and character references required from friends/neighbours.

Contact us by emailing [email protected] or calling 01495 366062.  You can also send me a text or whatsapp message on 07377 692404

You can volunteer for 1 hour per week or more - it's up to you. We ask for a commitment of one hour weekly, and this can be face to face or telephone befriending. The majority of our work is face-to-face, as a lot of our beneficiaries don't do well with phones. We won't limit when or how often you visit - that is a matter for you and the beneficiary that you are befriending to manage between yourselves. There is a small amount of time needed for training, a DBS and two references will be needed.
