As a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you will represent Blood Cancer UK in your local area, organising and creating fundraising opportunities to support life-saving research. Your role will involve raising awareness of our work by hosting events and encouraging donations from the public.

The role is flexible and varied, allowing you to arrange your own team of volunteers to organise events such as quiz nights, liaise with local businesses, or run activities based on your availability. You’ll have the freedom to focus on what you enjoy, use your connections, and fit it around your schedule. Our Regional Managers will support you every step of the way, providing training and all necessary materials to ensure your events are successful.

Please note, you need to be 18 or over for this role. This is an unpaid opportunity where you'll play an important part in raising funds and spreading awareness in your community.

Background

Every year, over 40,000 people are diagnosed with blood cancer in the UK. The key to beating blood cancer is research that improves treatment, and the more research we fund, the more breakthroughs we’ll see and the more lives we can save.

Blood Cancer UK Community Fundraising Volunteers play a crucial role in expanding our presence and engagement within local communities, raising awareness of our research, health information, and support services.

By organising your own fundraising activities, you'll develop new skills, expand your knowledge, and make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by blood cancer. The more events we run, the more people we can reach and the more money we can raise. You'll be part of a passionate team of volunteers working together to achieve this goal.

How will I be making a difference?

As a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you will directly contribute to funding vital research, helping us:

  • Develop cures for blood cancer, both now and in the future
  • Improve treatments and care for those currently living with blood cancer
  • Prevent blood cancer before it starts

Every penny raised has a significant impact:

  • £100 could fund a researcher to analyse 120 blood cell samples, potentially leading to a breakthrough
  • £210 could provide vital patient information to all those diagnosed with blood cancer
  • £500 could fund a research nurse for three days, providing invaluable support to patients testing new treatments

Key activities

  • Organising and hosting your own fundraising events, such as quiz nights, music events, and community gatherings
  • Participating in local events, like fetes and festivals, selling goods or running games
  • Applying to host bucket collections at local venues
  • Encouraging others in your network to volunteer and support your events
  • Attending and supporting bucket collections in your area
  • Engaging with the public to raise awareness of Blood Cancer UK’s work and services
  • Handling donations and ensuring funds are paid in either online, at Barclays Bank, or at a local post office
  • Completing risk assessments for your fundraising activities with the support of your Volunteer Manager

What skills, experience and qualities do I need?

  • Passion for fundraising and raising awareness of blood cancer
  • Strong communicator with an ability to engage with the local community
  • Committed, reliable, and adaptable, willing to take on a range of tasks
  • Organised, motivated, and enthusiastic
  • Comfortable handling cash and using a computer for basic administrative tasks

When :

This is a flexible, year-round role. You can choose the times that work best for you to organise and run events. We ask that you commit to hosting at least one event per year.
