Y Plant Affricanaidd CIC (Children of Africa CIC) is a community interest company based in Newport, Wales, dedicated to supporting Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, with a particular focus on African families. We work to address cultural, social, and systemic challenges by providing tailored support, education, and advocacy. Our mission is to empower families, foster a sense of belonging, and equip them with the resources needed to thrive, all while promoting inclusivity and cultural preservation.

Our Mission

1. To champion the specific needs of African families within BAME communities across Wales.

What We Do

1. Child Protection Awareness for African Families

   • Raising awareness of UK child protection laws and practices within BAME communities to build understanding and safeguard children.
   • Delivering workshops to help parents and caregivers navigate child protection expectations while respecting cultural values.

2. Parenting Support and Culturally Sensitive Courses

   • Offering culturally appropriate parenting courses to equip African families with strategies for raising children in a multicultural society.
   • Facilitating parenting sessions to address intergenerational and cultural challenges, fostering healthy and positive family relationships.

3. Advocacy Services

   • Providing advocacy support for BAME families dealing with issues such as housing, education, health care, and social services.
   • Assisting vulnerable African workers and families in accessing essential resources and asserting their rights.

4. Cultural Competence Training for Professionals

   • Delivering bespoke training for professionals in education, health care, and social services to enhance their understanding of African cultures and practices.
   • Promoting improved engagement and service delivery for BAME families through tailored workshops and advice.

5. Community Activities for African Families

   • Organising events and programmes that celebrate African heritage, culture, and achievements while encouraging community cohesion.
   • Providing opportunities for families to connect, learn, and grow together through recreational and educational initiatives.

6. Integration and Empowerment Initiatives

   • Supporting families to adjust to life in Wales through programmes designed to build social networks and practical skills.
   • Offering training in financial literacy, leadership development, and career advancement to empower parents and young people.
