Ynysybwl Community Centre is open to all ages and abilities. We currently provide low cost, hot lunches 3 days a week - Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
On average, we serve around 20 people at every sitting. There is a cross section of people who access the Centre to take advantage of the home cooked meals - from pensioners to teenagers to young families. As we also operate a foodbank and a baby bank, many who visit those will often stay for a hot drink and a chat with the regulars.
We believe that the Centre is a valuable asset to our community, providing companionship, conversation, friendship and fun, and helps to combat loneliness, especially amongst our most vulnerable residents.
At present we have a very limited band of dedicated volunteers who prepare and cook the meals, serve customers and make teas and coffees. We would like to open every day but do not have enough volunteers to do this. Also, when our main volunteer is away for whatever reason, we have to close as there is no one else to undertake the cooking.
If you feel you could contribute to our community by becoming a volunteer, please get in touch! We would require volunteers who are willing to undergo a food hygience certificate in order to cook and serve meals. We would also provide first aid training. Both lots of training would be free of charge.
