Welcome Friends Volunteers visit people in their homes, once a week for about an hour to chat with them. The program is government-funded, and allows us to support isolated people, usually over 65, living in the Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr areas.
Contact with others is important for good mental health - and a lot of our beneficiaries don't go out because they've lost confidence following a fall, have anxiety, or have no one to go out with. You can provide encouragement and support.
Others are housebound and don't get out at all - they need you to bring your best stories and cheerful smiles to them. You may be the only person they see all week, or at least the only one who has time to stop and talk longer than 5 minutes. Our beneficiaries tell us that their volunteers have a positive impact on their lives, and they look forward to visits
We've been doing this for over 12 years, so we know how important volunteers are to our older community - we know how you can make a massive difference, whether you're 18 or 80, your support is appreciated.
No experience is needed, travel expenses are paid. DBS check (we pay) and character references required from friends/neighbours.
