Volunteer skillsharers are needed at any of the base locations of RCT Domestic Abuse Services:

  • Cynon Safety Centre, Compton House, Victoria Square, Aberdare, CF44 7NT RCT
  • Domestic Abuse Services, Ty Ashgrove, Upper Church Street, Pontypridd, CF37 2UF
  • Safer Rhondda Centre, 115 Dunraven Street, Tonypandy, CF40 1AS

Role Purpose:

  • To bring skills of your own to share in workshops that align with our aims. Workshops that aim to build on individual’s confidence, self-esteem, confidence, enjoyment, knowledge and resilience.
  • We are open to suggestions on the activities and skills that can be shared!

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To lead workshops on a topic or area agreed with the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • To lead workshops as per the schedule agreed, and to let the Volunteer Coordinator/SAFE and SRC Projects know of any absences or lateness as soon as possible.
  • To maintain confidentiality of service users details and any disclosures, while reporting any incidents or disclosures in which a participant is at risk, with the support of the Volunteer Coordinator, Safeguarding Officer or member of staff. 
  • Helping individuals to achieve their goals and become empowered.

 

Requirements:

  • Respect for the confidentiality and self-respect of service users
  • Enthusiastic and confident
  • A self-starter who can work well independently
  • Flexible and creative
  • Non-judgemental, reliable and patient
  • Supportive, friendly and sensitive to others
  • Knowledge and understanding of (or ability to learn) domestic abuse and the effects on individuals and children
  • Ability to calmly respond to the needs of the individual attending workshop, including managing a crisis and passing on any concerns or assessing the need for a follow up call from a member of the SAFE or SRC teams
  • All workshop volunteers are subject to a DBS check

Professional:

  • To attend regular supervision. 
  • To operate within and observe RCT Domestic Abuse Services policies and procedures. 
  • To represent RCT Domestic Abuse Services in a professional manner, to promote its ethos and work in a positive way. 
  • To maintain anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory work practices
