This role exists to preserve, organise, and extend access to knowledge, culture, and collective memory. At its core, the work is about stewardship—ensuring that materials of historical, intellectual, and cultural value are not only protected, but made discoverable and meaningful for others. The volunteer will contribute to building a living archive that connects past, present, and future communities.
A strong sense of responsibility towards cultural and intellectual preservation. Attention to detail, particularly in cataloguing and documentation. An interest in history, archives, libraries, or material culture. Comfort with research and, where applicable, basic digital systems for record-keeping. Integrity and sound judgment, especially when handling acquisitions or transactions.
This role offers the opportunity to engage directly with meaningful materials and contribute to something enduring. It is practical experience in archival, library, and museum work, but more importantly, it is participation in preserving knowledge that might otherwise be lost or overlooked.
