Role: Junior Netball Coach

Responsible to: Chairperson

Status: Voluntary/Part Time

3hr Training Sessions Every Friday 5-8pm Location: Dare Community Sports Hall, Aberdare

 

JOB SUMMARY

To coach the sport of Netball to our junior members; drawing out the best in their abilities through identifying areas for development and implementing appropriate tactics and strategies to release their full potential. Coaches will be joining a small but mighty team committed to providing Netball training for members aged between 8-16.

Coaches Focus:

• Development of a player’s netball skills, promote fair play and sportsmanship.

• Be positive, inclusive and develop players for maximum performance.

• Plan and run weekly training sessions, attend all matches and warm up players a minimum of 30 minutes before each game.

• All coaches must be available to attend all team practices and weekend games wherever possible. Where coaches are unavailable, they must organise a replacement coach with the coaching team.

• Show a commitment to improving their own coaching abilities. The predominant role of coaches will be the planning and running of training sessions and coaching their team at matches. The Coach will abide by the DVF Code of Conduct and Wales Netball Code of Conduct.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in the preparation of suitable training programmes for each age group in consultation with the Coaching Team.

Coach to ensure each player’s development during the season, providing feedback and advice on player’s performance, physical and technical skills.

Develop and discuss tactics and strategies for both individual and team play.

Advise players on importance of positive mental attitude and discipline, inspiring confidence and self belief.

Work with members to use sport as a means of personal and social development.

Act as a role model, gaining the trust and respect of all involved with the club.

Ensure players train to a high level of health and safety at all times.

Attend and actively participate at all training sessions. If unable to attend a training session, ensure that the Coaching Team and Chairperson is advised.

Attend and actively participate Weekend/Weekday club games. If unable to attend a Weekend/Weekday game ensure Coaching Team and Chairperson is advised.

Research and keep up to date with the latest methods of coaching to ensure continual improvements in all players.

Seek and inform Chairperson of any training courses that aid coaches development.

Ensure participation and completion of training and development arranged by the Club with Wales Netball.

Ensure all players are given equal opportunity to develop and improve their netball skills and fitness levels.

Ensure with the assistance of coaching team that all players are aware of their responsibilities as a player for DVF.

Advise Chairperson and coaching team of any players who do not abide by the DVF Players Code of Conduct Criteria.

Adhere to the DVF Coaches Code of Conduct at all times.

Adhere to DVF Policies and Procedures in relation to Safeguarding and Health and Safety requirements.

Refrain from the use of personal mobile devices during training sessions and during games.

Be available for informal coaching meetings with the coaching team and committee meetings as deemed appropriate.

Person Specification for Junior Netball Coach

ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE

Relevant Experience:

• Previous experience of coaching

• Previous experience of working with young people

 

Education and Training:

• Minimum Level 1 Coaching qualification or willingness to work towards

• Sports First Aid qualification

 

Special Skills and Knowledge:

• Ability to behave as a role model and an ambassador for the Club

• Excellent organisational skills

• Reliable, punctual and committed

• An understanding of current rules and tactics of netball

• The ability to inspire and motivate young people

 

Personal Skills and Qualities:

• Ability to communicate with a range of individuals and groups

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team

• A supportive and empathetic approach to members

• Flexible approach to work

• Enthusiasm, commitment and dedication

• Commitment to safeguarding the welfare of members
