Our young change makers programme has been running for the past 5 months. We have been working with a group of children in Key Stage 2, some as young as 7, who have learned about the value of separating polymers, how to recognise and sort different polymers and experiment with materials by turning bottle tops into key rings. In this way, they have experienced a circular economy by changing waste into wealth. They also led a school assembly to educate their peers in this cutting edge technology. Precious Polymers has been the main Science Curriculum teaching in Year 6 for the summer term, which is backed up by the Curriculum for Wales. This model can be scaled up in other schools. Our products and processes will be showcased at the Cynefin cluster event at Treorchy Comprehensive School on 21st June, do pop over and say hello! A case study of our pilot will be written up shortly after and we are looking forward to working with other schools in RCT. Watch this space!
